Take a deep breath. Grow at your own pace.

Plant Practice helps people and businesses create spaces that feel alive — full of color, texture, and joy through the thoughtful use of plants.

We collaborate with both residential and commercial clients to design, style, install, and care for plants that fit your home or business lifestyle. Our approach is rooted in learning and growth — because, like yoga or piano, you can practice plants, too.

Interior and patio potted plants are our speciality, but Katy brings a wealth of education and experience working with Texas natives and adapted plants for outdoor landscapes, too. We also partner with a local landscape designer for bigger, more intricate installs.

Services

Every Plant Practice partnership starts with an in person consultation, always free of charge. We’ll discuss your goals, tour the space you want to transform, say nice things to your current plants, and talk through your needs. I will answer all your questions, whether you have two or 14 bazillion.

From there we’ll work together to figure out the next best steps. This could mean you run with the information I shared and make your existing plants shine, or it could mean I’ll put together a proposal for a combination of design, install, and/or ongoing plant care.

Ongoing maintenance is offered on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedule. If you want to practice plants on your own, we can do a simple quarterly check-in to make sure all your lovelies continue to thrive. All installs not paired with ongoing maintenance include a complimentary follow-up at 3 weeks to make sure everything is doing well. I am always available via phone or text to answer questions, no charge and no hassle. I want your plant practice to be a gratifying one!

Materials and plants cost vary based on the project, and plant care is billed monthly. Plant Practice is a boutique service; I don’t keep a large book of clients. I’m here to give your plants the same level of love and attention I give my own.

About

Hello! My name is Katy, and Plant Practice is my boutique plant care company. I live in SouthSouth Austin with my husband and son, two cats, 10 chickens, a bunch of fish, and 150+ plants.

I grew up on wooded acreage in rural Kentucky, climbing trees, collecting cicada shells, and playing in the forest until dinnertime (often later, sorry Momma). I had no idea that the mushrooms we picked by the bag full cost $100/lb in the fancy grocery stores of my adulthood – but I loved tramping through the damp woods in search of that buttery magic. My favorite childhood photo has me sniffing a giant lilac bloom with a cat in my lap, so not much has changed.

Life has taken me down various paths since those idyllic childhood days, but my love of the natural world has never left me. Whether it was a balcony pot of bougainvillea at my first apartment or keeping herbs in a butterfly habitat when my son was young, plants have always been a source of wonder and excitement.

Over more than two decades of dedicated plant care, I’ve killed more plants than I can remember – so you don’t have to! I’ve gone through the full Travis County Master Gardener course, and attend ongoing workshops and classes as a member of the Native Plant Society of Texas, through Austin Women in Horticulture, and at various nurseries.

Practice > perfection. I’m here to give you the knowledge and confidence to jumpstart your own project, or take full charge with start to finish design and ongoing maintenance. Let’s practice plants!
